Cookie Statement

This website uses cookies. By providing you with this information on how we manage cookies, Hainaut Province undertakes to ensure that the collection and processing of data complies with the Belgian Act of July 10, 2012, containing various provisions on electronic communications (known as the Telecoms Act) and transposing European Directive No. 2009/136/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of November 25, 2009, regarding the new constraints and obligations for website publishers and owners concerning the information to be provided to visitors, Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of April 27, 2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data (hereinafter, the “European Data Protection Regulation”) and the Belgian Act of July 30, 2018 on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data.

What is a cookie?

A cookie is a connection token. It is a small text file that may be stored on your computer when you visit websites. Information is stored in this text file to remember your preferences.

Cookies have an expiry date in many cases. For example, some cookies are automatically deleted when you close your browser (session cookies). Others remain on your computer for longer, sometimes until they are manually deleted (persistent cookies: these do not require you to redefine your preferences each time you visit the site).

There are several types of cookies that can be classified according to either the domain from which it is sent, the purpose, or the expiry period.

According to the domain and purpose :

  • First-party cookies are cookies installed and managed by Hainaut Province. They are specific to the Province’s website or the Province’s application.
  • Third-party cookies are installed and managed by a third party. They are installed while you are browsing a website or using an app. They allow data to be sent to third parties when you browse the Province’s website or use an app. A third-party cookie or tracker is a tag embedded on the computer by a website other than the one visited by the user (e.g., for social media). Third-party cookies can record the number of times the page has been loaded, as well as the time spent on the website or the path taken via hyperlinks the user followed to reach the page. Third-party cookies therefore make tracking possible.

In particular, there are social cookies that allow users to share content from the site they are visiting on social media. Neither this website nor its legal representatives assume any responsibility for the content or accuracy of the privacy and cookie policies of third parties mentioned in this section on cookie management!!!!!!! We therefore invite you to read the privacy and cookie policies of third-party websites (e.g., Facebook, etc.).
  • Necessary cookies : these are used to store session information. Web pages have no memory. These cookies allow website owners to track the movements of users visiting the site from one page to another to avoid asking them to re-enter information they have already provided to the site.
  • Preference cookies : during a visit to a website, these cookies are used to store information about the type of browser used and any additional browser software installed. They also store preferences selected when customizing the website, if the website provides this option, such as location, language, or preferred fonts.
  • Analytical cookies : these help us learn more about how visitors interact with our content so that we can improve the presentation of our site. They collect information on how visitors use the site, the website the user came from, the number of visits by each user, and the length of time a user spends on the site.

According to expiry period :

  • Session cookies : these are stored temporarily in your browser or app. They are automatically deleted when you close your browser or app.
  • Persistent cookies: these remain on your computer or mobile device, even when you close your browser or app, and visitors will not have to set their preferences each time they visit the site. They allow us to recognize you during your subsequent visits and they remain on your device until they expire, until a new version of the cookie is installed, or until you manually delete them.
